We envision a world where authentic storytelling drives understanding, empowerment, and social change.

Learn more about our process

  • Before filming starts, we create a plan in collaboration with our changemakers.

We use brainstorming activities to create a supportive space for deep conversations with our clients, one where the goals, mission and vision for the work will be defined. Our social worker builds an ethical environment, one that prioritizes the mental health of everyone involved.

  • During filming, we carry out our plan with intention. Telling your story is emotional! Participants are supported and cared for throughout the process by an emotional support person on set. This could be by our social worker, Tamara Knox, or someone that she has trained.

  • In post-production, we provide multiple points for review of our work, actively listen to our storytellers to ensure the story is reflected authentically.

  • After the release of your film, we continue to support our storytellers.

In a step that is unique to Ethical Narrative, we utilize a comprehensive follow-up plan that includes asking for feedback and inviting participants to a one-hour, confidential emotional support session. We work to ensure that all those who appeared on camera are fully supported as they integrate the storytelling experience into their personal narrative and their lives.

“Ethical Narrative is an exemplary company, and one of the only photo or video organizations we've come across that prioritizes ethics and the well-being of their video participants, which highly aligns with our values. Our Media team learned a great deal from their Ethical Storytelling training, and we also worked with them to develop a video for our 50th Anniversary. While we had a vast amount of time and content to fit into a five minute video, Autumn and her team worked wonders—even under a tight deadline—to create a short film that was compelling as it highlighted the health center and our community's story. When we premiered the video at our gala, you could visibly see the emotional impact on our audience, and it helped us surpass our in-person fundraising goal that night. We recommend Ethical Narrative to any organization wanting to tell their story ethically and compassionately.”

“The Ethical Narrative team created powerful and impactful stories that highlighted the heroic work of our Mental Health Champions. They also brought a level of care and professionalism to the project that reflects their core ethical storytelling values. Those values align with our organization, so it was a truly rewarding partnership.  ”

FCUSD had a vision for making each school in Rancho Cordova the center of wellness for their students and families, but it wasn’t until Autumn and Tamara were hired to tell our story that staff, district leaders, families and community leaders unfamiliar with Community Schools were able to really see and understand the vision. We submitted the Ethical Narrative video of our vision with our grant application and 6 of our 7 schools received 7.6 million in funding for the next 5 years!
