Salgu Wissmath

Salgu Wissmath (they/them) is dedicated to decolonizing the field of photography and filmmaking by engaging in ethical storytelling by and for people of color and the queer community. Their personal work explores the intersections of mental health, queer identity, and faith from a conceptual documentary approach. 

Widely recognized for their visual work, Salgu is a board member for Clara’s House and the Communications Director for Diversify Photo. They are proud to be a member of collectives dedicated to diversifying and decolonizing the photo/video industry such as Women Photograph, Authority Collective, Native Agency, AAJA, and A-Doc. Their first narrative short film “The Side Effects of Normal” will premiere at the 2022 Queer Women of Color Film Festival.
